As summer draws to a close and leaves begin to fall, it’s time to transform your home with some Autumn home trends into a cosy retreat that reflects the beauty of autumn.

With colder temperatures creeping up on us, a homely yet luxurious space can create visual warmth for a calming and relaxing space.

Welcoming earthly tones

A subtle change of colour palette can easily transform the feel of the home from season to season. Autumn is all about warm, earthy tones that reflect the changing landscape outside. Transition from summer to autumn, with spicy, earthy, warm tones. Switch out soft furnishings such as pillows, throws and rugs, for those in these autumnal hues. With so many shades to choose from, green is a great colour option for any home this autumn. Sage, khaki, and emerald shades all work well to emulate earthy autumnal nature in the home. Consider incorporating hues of burnt oranges and warm browns into your home through accent walls, pillows, blankets, and artwork to welcome nature’s colour palette into your space.

Soft textures

Using a variety of textures on your bed or sofa is a great way to create character in your home this autumn. Chunky knit, faux fur or waffle textured rugs, cushions or throws will amplify the cosiness in bedrooms and living rooms. These types of textiles can easily be swapped out as the seasons change without having to completely change your decor every time. These layered textiles will not only provide warmth during chilly evenings but also create an inviting atmosphere. Soft textured accessories aren’t the only way to enhance a homely feel. The furniture itself can be chosen to develop a more welcoming autumnal space. Currently trending is the reintroduction of curving shapes which soften the edges of traditionally angular designs. Curved edges on coffee tables, lamps or legs on chairs can be chosen over sharp and structured furniture to soften a space, creating a calming effect. Curved finishes can also draw your attention to a feature or focal point in a space, such as a cosy fireplace, or seasonally dressed dinner table.

Cosy lighting

As we enter Autumn and the hours of daylight reduce, lighting becomes more important. Rather than focusing on bright overhead lights, this season it is all about layered lighting. Adding a statement wall light to your bedroom, living room, or dining room can highlight those darker areas and spread the light further across the room. This is a great way to create a cosier feel to a room and low-hanging light fixtures will particularly enhance this aesthetic. Candlelight also adds a touch of warmth and romance to any room and this scent is particularly perfect for autumn. Invest in beautiful candle holders to scatter throughout your space and enjoy the soft flickering light during the autumn evenings. To make sure the homes catch every minute of sunlight, our Waterbank Homes feature floor-to-ceiling windows in the dining rooms, living rooms and bedrooms. Not only does this add a sense of grandeur to the properties, but these large windows maximise natural light to make the interior space seem bigger.
