Christmas is about coming together with family and friends, getting in that joyful spirit and, of course, the decorating!

We believe it’s never too early to ‘deck the halls’, especially in 2020. We know this year has been hard for many people and now there is the possibility that this Christmas won’t be the big, social affair we’re used to.

On the plus side, this gives us more time to accessorise our homes. With everyone spending more time indoors this December, unable to have Christmas parties or go to fancy meals, it’s the perfect time to create your very own winter wonderland at home.

2020 has got us all focusing on the negatives, but Christmas is still a time to get festive and cosy. So, why not make your home magical and get imaginative with our interior design ideas?

Here are five interior design Christmas trends we think you will love:

Nothing beats a classic

Christmas tree

Given how difficult this year’s been, it’s no wonder there is a yearning to keep things traditional when it comes to Christmas décor. We are fully embracing nostalgic trends that rekindle our childhood memories and take us back to simpler times. From classic red and green decorations for the tree, to the humble stocking above the fireplace, adorned with a holly garland, embrace the classics with these gorgeous additions that remind us of Christmases gone by.

Make your décor pop!

For colour lovers, here is something a bit different that caught our eye: Christmas, Pop Art style. The use of bright, bold and blocked colours is the way forward. This trend is all about experimenting, so get your Andy Warhol thinking caps on, and just have some fun with it.

Remember, Pop Art means anything goes, as long as you break from tradition. One option is to complement the colour scheme of your living room with striking, contrasting baubles or neon decorations. Let your imagination run wild.

A little bit of luxury

Now let’s go from one extreme to the other. Another of our favourite Christmas trends this year has to be the use of platinum – that most luxury of colours. With hints of gold and silver, platinum Christmas decorations are a great way to add an extra sparkle.

A monochrome platinum design like this will ooze elegance and sophistication, adding some extra special festive flair that’s ready-made for those all-important Instagram snaps. This popular choice will keep things chic and can be reimagined every year.

A crafty Christmas

Make the most of your time at home and bring out your crafty side this Christmas. Creating handmade decorations takes a little more effort, but the outcome is truly personal to you.

It’s also an ideal way to lift the family’s spirits, bring everyone together round the table to get involved in making beloved DIY decorations.

And why not upcycle your old ornaments while you’re at it? Give them a new lease of life, with new paints or glitter sprays, to transform your home into a makeshift Santa’s Grotto.

Can you think of a better way to pass the time in lockdown?

Bring the outdoors in

Lastly, we love the idea of bringing nature to your table at Christmas. To add a rustic, cosy touch, celebrate natural textures, such as wood, rattan, cotton and wool. Or collect some pinecones, autumn leaves and maybe even some holly-bush on a winter walk to display them as your centrepiece at the dinner table. The fresh scent will make you feel like you’re in the open air, while indulging in your festive feast.

We hope these trends give you the inspiration you need to make this Christmas the best one yet and finish the year off being thankful for what we have.
