Limewash: This paint trend will elevate any room in your home for 2023

It will surely make your room look like it belongs in magazines.

What is limewashing and why should I embrace it?

Your home may be brand new, but this sophisticated ancient painting technique has never looked so current. With its ode to century-old style, limewashing oozes romanticism and mystery and is absolutely perfect at transforming one dimensional walls. It’s no surprise why it is still having its moment in interior design. Although be warned, once you experience the charm of limewashed walls, you may never want to return to your usual matte finishes.

Not only is this unique technique aesthetically pleasing, it is also incredibly sustainable and environmentally friendly. This treatment is non-toxic and contains zero solvents or VOC’s; and is even said to be hypoallergenic and antimicrobial.

What is the best room to use limewash in?

Whatever you’re drawn to, from dreamy beiges to moody blues, your style options are limitless. You will easily be able to execute traditional farmhouse vibes, easy California cool, or European romanticism, in any room of your home.

Of course, these walls will charm anyone in any room, which is why it is so versatile. Spaces like kitchens, bathrooms, and even a master bedroom, where natural materials such as reclaimed wood, linen, or marble are particularly prevalent, would work so harmoniously with the rustic feel.

It is also incredibly durable for both indoor and outdoor use, as it binds easily and soaks into surfaces rather than sitting on top like regular paint. Which is why it would match seamlessly with outdoor porous materials like stone.

How to apply limewash?

This look is much more attainable than you may think, and something you could DIY easily, as a huge perk of limewash paint is that it gives the most perfect imperfect look.

Using a long-haired brush, lightly apply in thin layers in all directions in cloud-like patterns. It takes some patience as it usually requires three coats to finish, so ensure you allow each layer to dry completely before beginning the next layer.
