It’s what’s on the inside that really counts, but here at Altin Homes we know that first impressions count. When it comes to your home, what’s on the outside is equally as important. Which is why we offer a bespoke, end-to-end service for all your exterior landscaping and garden design needs.

National Gardening Week runs from the 30th April – 6th May, so we’ve decided to take a look at some of the most striking outdoor trends for 2018 that will leave your neighbours green with envy.

Beautiful outdoor furniture

1) Bring the comforts of the indoors outside

It’s becoming increasingly popular for outdoor areas to be made multi-functional and this includes garden living rooms. This means that you could swap out your old hard deckchairs for a plush seating space, including couches, tables and maybe even a fireplace for those cosy summer nights. To complete the set, you could even add a tasteful storage unit to keep your furniture safe from the ever unpredictable British weather.

Grow your own fruit and vegetables

2) Be more eco-minded

A beautiful garden can have more than one use. Instead of focusing on fancy flowers, you should think about adorning your outdoor space with plants that not only look nice, but are also practical. What’s more, growing your own fruit and vegetables doesn’t only create an aesthetic dimension in your garden, it can save you money at the same time. Rather than buying from supermarkets, you will have everything you need for a fresh and nutritious meal just a few feet away from your kitchen.

Upcycle your old possessions into garden features

3) In with the old, out with the new

We’re seeing more and more people favouring the distressed exterior look for their properties, with weathered bricks and tiles being used on new builds to create rustic feel, but with the reliability of new materials. There’s a lot of takes on this trend that you can use in the garden: from shipping containers being converted into modern style sheds, to greyscale plant pots and worn out fence panels and everything in between.
