Meet Ava Khoy, one of our directors at Altin Homes who joined the team at the end of last year. In this blog, Ava speaks about her experience, her favourite aspects of Altin Homes and her top interior trends to look out for this year.
What is your role at Altin Homes?
As one of the directors at Altin Homes, I oversee a diverse range of responsibilities. From dealing with design elements and drawings, coordinating with suppliers of construction materials as well as interior items, my role means that I am involved in a lot of areas within the business. Within my role, I also attend site visits for potential new projects and have been involved in the bid process for these prospect plots. Currently, our main focus is finishing the Waterbank finalising our planning application for our Allostock project and identifying potential future opportunities.
What made you want to work in design?
I’ve always been interested in the built environment, particularly buildings. I started my career in structural engineering, carrying out structural design for buildings for seven years before joining Altin Homes While my background lies in engineering, my interest in architecture and interior design led me to pursue a broader range of design tasks, and my director role at Altin allows me to do just that.
What interior trends have you noticed a rise in?
I have seen a lot of DIY renovation accounts on Instagram, which isn’t anything new, but there seems to be a growing desire among people wanting to share what they are doing more than they have in previous years due to the rise of social media.
One particular trend I have seen on a few accounts is colour drenching, which I love. We are actually implementing this trend in one of the properties at Waterbank which has vaulted ceilings. In these areas, we will be painting the skirting boards, walls and ceilings in the same colour. This gives a sense of unity across the room and also makes the space look bigger.
What makes Altin Homes special?
The attention to detail we put into each house makes Altin stand out. We do not compromise on quality, for example, we installed high-spec kitchens and bathrooms in our bijou collections which comprises of smaller, more affordable homes. We are very proud of our standard of finish and the quality of each Altin Home remains consistent.
What advice would you give to someone who wants their home to look luxury?
I really believe in the less is more philosophy and quality over quantity. I personally have always liked sticking to a natural colour scheme, using a lot of earthy tones such as wood or timber where possible, or, if bright colours are being used then making sure the colour scheme of an entire room has been properly considered. However, luxury is something that is very subjective. What one person might think is luxurious someone else might not. My advice to someone desiring a luxury-style home is to create a mood board so that the colour scheme, textures of the room and lighting are all well thought out.
What do you think is the best feature at Waterbank?
The exterior of the properties in our Waterbank development is different to any previous projects with timber façade. We worked with the cladding company, Millboard, who have a passion for quality and dedication to performance. The use of Millboard’s products ensured that each property not only stood out for its stunning design but also its robustness and longevity. The cladding solutions provided by Millboard are celebrated for their low maintenance needs and weather resistance, making them an ideal choice for the luxury homes at Waterbank.
The Waterbank homes are also different to our previous projects and unlike any other houses I’ve seen in Manchester and Cheshire. The homes blend luxury with environmental sustainability, so they are not only aesthetically pleasing but also energy-efficient and environmentally friendly. A particular stand-out feature of environmental excellence is the tribrid heating systems in the Waterbank Homes. The renewable solar and green heat pumps provide low and zero-carbon energy solutions achieving major progress on carbon reduction.
