Get your home ready for 2021

After spending so much time at home in 2020, the New Year is the perfect time for a spruce up, whether that’s a scattering of new accessories or a complete home makeover following all the latest interior design trends.

The benefit of buying a new-build home is that you have a blank canvas to fill with all the Instagram-worthy trends.

At Altin, we understand the power of design to turn a house into a home. All of our properties are exquisitely designed from the ground up, using the finest fixtures and fittings. Just check out our latest collection of luxury family homes for sale, Bank Farm Grove.

Then the rest is up to you! To give you some design inspiration, here are our top five interior trends for 2021:

Country inspiration

Cottagecore has made a splash this year, with every corner of the internet talking about the trend. This trend is all about being cosy and inviting, treating your home as a remote countryside cottage. The key elements are gingham and floral patterns in pastel colours; natural materials, such as reclaimed wood in the kitchen and linen in the bedroom; and plenty of flowers and houseplants. Add in some vintage-inspired touches to add extra glamour and sophistication.

Maximalism is one of the big interior design trends of the moment

After years of minimalism, white walls, neutral colour palettes and empty space, maximalism is here to take over in 2021. The more the merrier is the motto of maximalism, clashing prints and colours and an assortment of seemingly random, personal, and one-of-a-kind items. The easiest way to start adding maximalism into your home is with a gallery wall, a collection of mismatched artwork that explodes with fun and tells your houseguests exactly who you are.

Rest and relax

We all deserve to chill out and relax, and retailers have been taken over by at-home spa supplies to transform your bathroom into a sanctuary. If you’re starting from scratch, natural stone and marble is a decadent place to start. A few small touches can also give your space a spa feel: bath trays provide an extra touch of luxury and the right scents can transport you to your favourite relaxation destination.

An office at home

Whether you like it or not, working from home is here to stay for a little longer. For many, what started as a temporary solution, is becoming a long-term setup. While we all focus on the look of our space, function is important in an area you’ll be spending so much of your time. Make sure you have a comfortable chair for a pain-free back, additional lighting to look your best on all those Zoom calls and reduce eye strain, and a desk plant to keep you company during your working day (of course).

A pop of colour

Though it might feel like yellow and grey colour schemes have been populating homeware and interiors shops for years, Pantone has confirmed the colours aren’t going anywhere soon by naming both hues their colours of the year for 2021. Ultimate Grey – a classic, pale grey – provides an easy base to work with. On the flip side, Illuminating – a bright, zingy yellow – adds the pop of sunshine we all need right now. This colour combination is easy to incorporate into your home, whether you want to all the way with wallpaper or just add a splash of colour with accessories, such as throws and plants.
