Christmas is an occasion that welcomes creativity into the home. We’ve sifted through all the glitter, plaid and twinkly lights to give you our top DIY Christmas decor ideas that radiate luxury and style.

Hanging branch centrepiece

An effective way to elevate your interiors for the holiday season is by incorporating earthy features. Using a Christmas branch as a centrepiece above your table will create a minimalistic yet luxurious feel in your room. This simple DIY will take all of 30 minutes with the right tools and pieces.

You’ll need:

  • A tree branch – go for one that’s roughly the same length as your table
  • Good quality fishing wire
  • Baubles and other Christmas ornaments of your choice
  • Battery-operated wire fairy lights
  • Fixings to secure your branch to the ceiling, i.e. hooks with screws or command hooks
  • Scissors

Step one:

Begin by wrapping your wire fairy lights around the branch.

Step two:

Secure your branch above the dinner table with the fishing wire and hooks with screws. If you’re looking for something more temporary, try using command hooks that can easily be taken down without any damage.

Step three: Add baubles and Christmas decorations that match your decor. We’d suggest neutral colours alongside clear baubles for that luxurious touch.

Feeling adventurous? Add a touch of greenery by wrapping evergreen wire around your branch.

Create your own wreath

Making your own wreath has become quite the trend this season. If you’re unsure on where to start, we’ve condensed what you’ll need to do into six simple steps.

You’ll need:

  • A wire frame
  • Moss
  • Fishing wire
  • Pine needle branches
  • Eucalyptus branches
  • Christmas foliage such as dried berries or birch twigs
  • Ribbon

Step one:

Roll the moss into small balls and place them on the corner of your wire frame. Make sure they’ve surrounded the outside of your wire frame before securing them with wire. Wrap the wire around the balls onto the wire frame to fix them in place.

Step two:

Wrap the fishing wire around the top of your wire frame. This will ensure that when you use a ribbon or string to hang the wreath, it’s fully secured.

Step three:

Start placing the pine needle branches on top of your wire frame at an angle. Once you’ve placed one, wrap wire around it to secure it and then place the next branch on top of it. It’s very important that you place it at the same angle around the whole wreath.

Step four:

Add your Eucalyptus branches in between or on top of your pine needles. Ensure these are at the same angle as your pine needles. You can slot these into the already placed wire, or add some additional wire if needed.

Step five:

To add texture and variation to your wreath, finish it off by adding some Christmas foliage in sporadic places throughout the wreath. Make sure you’re adding some foliage underneath branches to add definition.

Step six:

Wrap the ribbon through the wireframe that you initially wrapped around the top of your wreath and hang!

Warming lights

If you have a fireplace that you aren’t able to light, or a corner of your room that is lacking warmth, try these string light lanterns out.

All you’ll need is:

  • Lanterns (3 or 4 depending on the size of space)
  • Battery operated string lights (buy enough to fill all your lanterns)

Take your lanterns and place your string lights inside of them. You’ll get that campfire experience without leaving your sofa.
