Assemble a packing team

You will need a crack team to organise everything when moving to a new house. Enlist friends and family to help with packing and consider hiring a professional removals company to manage the move.

If you plan to hire a removals firm, have a look around for reputable businesses, taking time to look at reviews. After all, you want all your possessions to go from A to B with no fuss or damage!

What’s more, there are several price comparison sites out there to help you keep removal costs low.

Start sooner rather than later

Packing can be an overwhelming job – where do you start? By breaking it down into smaller chunks, the job will seem a lot easier.

Give yourself lots of time to start packing each room before moving day. A last-minute rush is no fun for anyone!

Start with ornamental items and those storage boxes hidden away under bed or in cupboards. Clear lesser-used spaces first, so get working on the spare rooms before busier areas of the home.

Next move on to clearing out the kitchen cupboards, boxing the fancy kitchen gadgets gathering dust.

Once these are sorted, the path to finishing will become a lot clearer. Plus, the sight of already-packed boxes is an excellent motivator to keep going.

Make a survival kit for the big day

It’s important to keep your team happy and refreshed on moving day. Pack a ‘survival kit’ with your kettle, a few mugs, tea, coffee, and milk that can be unpacked first.

Any other essentials, such as phone chargers, can also be included. And maybe even pop in a celebratory bottle of champagne for when the day is done.

Time to rest

Moving home is tiring work. The excitement of owning a new house might mean you want to get right into unpacking and organising everything. We don’t blame you – putting your stamp on a space is key.

One tip is to focus on your bed first. Once all the boxes are unloaded and in the right rooms, make your bed.

You’ll be thankful when nighttime comes and you don’t have that ‘one more thing to do’. You can just fall into your first night’s sleep in your new home. You’ll wake up refreshed, ready to tackle the unpacking…
