Our second post in the Altin Aspects series explores the current colour trends dominating the world of interiors and how best to incorporate them into your Altin home. To ensure you’re ahead of the interiors curve, we also look forward to 2020, deconstructing what colour experts are anticipating as the next leading palettes.

Colours of the year

Every year, paint brands enlist their top experts to predict what the colour of the year will be. Although each company’s choice differs, all of them try to reflect the mood of the moment or the current temper of society.

This year, Dulux was inspired by the need to find clarity and contemplation. Its colour, Spiced Honey, is described as a warm amber tone. Upon first encounter, the colour can seem quite daunting. However, it’s all about moderation and trying not to overwhelm the room. This colour can be calming, cosy or vibrant and aims to achieve a look between boutique hotel chic and real house warmth. Using this colour for a statement wall or incorporating it through furnishings is a softer approach to styling the amber shade.

Top tip: Paired excellently with a dusty rose, why not opt for bedding and pillows with a warm amber tone?

Farrow and Ball takes a similar approach to its colour of the year. Aiming to cocoon its audience away from a troubling world, Farrow and Ball has shifted away from neutrals and is focussed on embracing rich and dramatic hues. Its first colour, De Nimes, is great for those who are apprehensive about embracing dramatic colours in their home. The distinctive dark grey tone is solid and strong, yet versatile. Through a statement wall, it can transform a room from basic to impressive.

Farrow and Ball’s second colour of the year, Sulking Room Pink, is a perfect pairing with grey and blue shades. The colour brags enormous warmth, although it’s important to note that crisp whites alongside the colour are a definite no. The dirty rose promotes cosiness and intimacy, so it works perfectly in living rooms or bedrooms.

Top tip: De Nimes can offer a great anchor to a room, so using it on woodwork, such as kitchen units, can provide a darker, more complex atmosphere.

What’s next in 2020?

Elle Decor recently featured Behr’s ColourSmart experts discussing upcoming trends for the year. Five shades that are anticipated to hit the interiors market by storm were the focus of the piece.

The first of these, dusty lilac, has a fantastic vintage flair to it that will only heighten the luxury feel in your Altin room. The colour complements a range of dark hues, so pairing it with colour of the year: De Nimes, will ensure timeless luxury while staying on trend.

Yellow

A vibrant yellow will be brightening the interiors market in 2020. The charismatic colour will be an excellent addition to darker rooms that are missing a stark contrast.

Red

Third in the list is a vivacious red. Although bold, the colour can be used through statement pieces to complement a room. Bringing this colour into a bright white room through home decor accessories, will scream sophistication and class.

Green

Green hues make their big debut in 2020. Following the trend of engaging with nature in the home, it comes as no surprise that the interiors world is shifting from biophillia to embodying more earthy hues via paint. The calming nature of these colours will work excellently in home offices.

Creamy mushroom

White is out in 2020 and creamy mushroom is here to take its place. The timeless greige-toned shade will inspire any lover of neutrals to make the move to something a little less basic. Bringing moody blues or dusty pinks in through furnishings will be an excellent way to pay homage to these shades that continue to influence interiors trends.
