Make a splash this season with a vintage-inspired bathroom

This post marks the beginning of our new monthly blog series, Altin Aspects. In this series, we’ll take you through the latest interior design trends, including tips on incorporating them into your home. This month, we’re focusing on nailing the vintage trend in bathrooms.

Although typically modern and high spec, our bathrooms are adaptable to all styles, and vintage is no exception. If you’re looking for some nifty tips and tricks, here are our top suggestions for achieving that old-meets-new vibe.

Tip 1: Boost your brassware

A brilliant way to create a vintage looking space is to expose your brassware, blending industrial chic with period design for the ultimate sophisticated space. Elegant choices, such as exposed showers and bronze hues, are an easy way to achieve this look. Distinctive metals make a real statement, while mixing your metals creates a dreamy, spa-inspired look that is featured heavily in high-end magazines.

Tip 2: Keep it consistent

A consistent colour scheme will help achieve a traditional feel. Neutral shades provide the perfect opportunity for colour layering in order to achieve that rustic style. If you’re looking to make a bold statement, consider exquisite tiles in coral pink or deep green to create that retro vibe.

Tip 3: Freestyle with freestanding

Nothing screams vintage like a freestanding bath. The slipper bath was hugely popular during the Victorian era, and the recent surge in its popularity means variations of the bath have dominated the interiors market.

A freestanding bath is the perfect centrepiece, as it can tie in colours or themes throughout the room. This bold statement can also be painted to make it your own and fit with the theme of the room.

Tip 4: Be bold!

To make a bathroom more traditional, why not incorporate elegant floral patterns? A bold wallpaper harks back to the classic powder rooms found in upper-class Victorian homes. If you fancy sticking to a more modern feel, but still want that old-meets-new style, geometric tiles are a perfect way to tie in a bold statement piece to a modern bathroom.

Tip 5: Mirror mirror on the wall

A stunning vintage trend that can easily be incorporated into your bathroom is rectangular mirrors. This trend has already started to replace the large circular mirrors that dominated interiors in 2018. Classic metal tones, rustic furnishings and decorative accessories transport any modern bathroom into a Victorian-lovers dream.
